Notice of Electronic Payment Processing Fee
Beginning on October 1, 2024, Harbor Transit riders purchasing ride credits with a credit/debit card will incur a small fee charged by a third party electronic payment processing company.
Currently, riders can purchase ride credits with a credit or debit card through the Lakeshore Go app, through Harbor Transit’s website at www.harbortransit.org/fares, or in person at our facility with a card, cash, or check. A fee is charged for each electronic payment transaction, and will be charged automatically. Riders do not have to perform any additional actions when purchasing ride credits.
The fees are as follows:
- In-Person Payment with a Credit/Debit card = 2.6% + $0.10 fee per transaction
- Online Payment or Lakeshore Go Payment with a Credit/Debit card = 2.9% + $0.30 fee per transaction
The good news is, there are several ways that riders can reduce electronic payment fee charges:
- Purchase a Monthly Pass if you are a frequent rider.
- Purchase a “Bundle” of ride credits (they come in the amounts of $9, $18, or $27), or purchase your ride credits in bulk for any other amount of your choosing.
- Pay with cash or a check at our facility at 440 N Ferry Street to avoid incurring any fees at all. Your ride to and from Harbor Transit to add ride credits to your account will be free.

How To Pay Your Fare
There are several ways passengers may pay for their fares.
1. Purchase ride credits online with a credit/debit card.
2. Pay through the Lakeshore Go app (credit/debit card only). Add a payment method to your account on the Lakeshore Go app at any time, as shown in the screenshots below. From your account menu, select the “Payment Methods” option and complete the steps to add a new payment method.
Using this payment method, a rider’s card on file will be charged per ride once the ride has been completed.
3. Pay at the Harbor Transit facility (440 N Ferry Street, Grand Haven, Michigan 49417) using cash, check, or credit/debit card. Harbor Transit will also honor any punch passes that were issued in the past, and riders can redeem those ride credits by bringing their old punch passes to our facility.
Riders paying at our facility may choose to purchase as many ride credits as they desire at that time. The total amount will be loaded on to their rider account and the ride credits will not expire.
4. Mail a check to Harbor Transit with the amount you would like to add to your account. Riders using this option must include a letter documenting their full name, address and phone number.
Harbor Transit will not accept cash payments via the mail and riders should note that the US Postal Service advises against mailing cash.
Please note that cash, checks or cards will not be accepted on the buses. Riders will need to pay via the Lakeshore Go app or purchase ride credits at our facility.
